good idea to ban nsfw content on a 13+ website. like as a concept, it is a good policy!!
no more cp
children will not get exposed to nsfw shit on here anymore (literally you could not search the tag of any female character, including adult ones, without finding porn of her. after this ban was announced, a 15 year old i know’s first reaction was “finally i can search any tag ever”)
no more dudes with blogs that are just gifs of stolen footage from sex workers
no more nerds with hentai blogs. theyre not inherently bad but i personally hate them
bad things about the nsfw ban
will hurt sex workers who use this site to advertise
bad implementation: things getting incorrectly flagged as nsfw. several sfw lgbt tags and a few fandom tags (like, for children’s tv shows) were made unsearchable, and some innocent people’s blogs were deleted. this is more a problem with the implementation, than the policy itself.
not necessarily a bad thing about the nsfw ban, but a bad thing related to it: tumblr ONLY did this bc they got taken out of the app store. they don’t actually give a shit
things that are unrelated to the nsfw ban but important to note
tumblr still hasn’t banned the terfs or the nazis, and they need to.
tumblr STILL promotes pedophilic content. in their “year in review 2018″ thing, many of the “top ships” listed were pedophilic (like sheith) or incestuous (like thorki). this is disgusting.
I think we can acknowledge how this move will hurt sex workers while also liking the taking down of material that’s harmful for kids? It’s too dismissive to just say “horny people have no rights” as sex workers will and have been hurt by tumblrs clumsy ass implementation but also it was wild that 15 year olds were sharing posts in how to report child porn.
The real solution was to have better tagging, a nsfw system that actually worked and for them to aggressively tackle cases of child porn, pedophilies and their communities which could have been done with months woth of site infrastructure revamping. Instead they had a few weeks to do something to get back in the App Store. We can acknowledge the people who were screwed over and endangered. It’s important to protecting sexworkers. There are many blogs in here that don’t care about sex workers and don’t care they their livelihood was or in jeopardy and just care that they can look at hentai anymore.
Y’all shouldn’t be rallying with those people and everyone needs to be better allies and uplift the voices of sex workers and I think we can do both(listen to sex workers and not let their legitimate concerns be co-opted by people who only care about looking at Sheith porn)
im not gonna like stop using this site or anything but i can pretty confidently say this is one of the dumbest moves ive seen a site make in a while. instead of fixing the actual problems with their website ie pornbots on every fucking post, actual pedophiles, theyre just going to ban everything horny which most likely isnt going to solve those problems and is going to hurt lots of sex workers and artists as well as drive people off the site
